Abstract

This presentation was part of the ‘Space: Multisensory Experiences’ event on Aural Diversities, supported by the Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE), funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The event took place at the Royal Dockyard Church in Chatham.

The presentation gave an overview of one of my compositional methods, based on the interpretation of information received through all our senses as gestural and textural activity in the aural domain. The method attempts to map our experiences from a number of sensory systems to aural space. The presentation detailed how I use information collected through multisensory walks, including environmental recordings and sensory maps as starting points to create layers of sound material.
