Developing academics as Diversity Mark Practitioners

Panesar, Lucy (2026) Developing academics as Diversity Mark Practitioners. [Conference item] (KAR id:115383)

Abstract

Diversity Mark is a programme that has sought to address race awarding and experience gaps at University of Kent since 2018, through the co-creation of selected module reading lists. In 2025, I introduced a new 'Diversity Mark Practitioner Route' which supports academics to develop inclusive teaching and curriculum design practices across the various modules they lead. This is supported by an in-person retreat which brings academics together to review curricula and teaching practices with specialist tools and guidance. In this presentation, I explain the rationale for this new approach and reflect on participant feedback and some of the curriculum, teaching and assessment reforms they are making.
