Abstract

This article, commissioned by Second Sight Films for their limited edition of the 4K UHD Blu ray release of Talk to Me, situates the film in a long tradition of horror movies representing spiritualist seances. The article offers an introduction discussing real practices involving attempts to contact the dead, including the popular spirit photography, and analyses also Talk To Me's dynamics between mother and children in relation to other movies in the genre. Most importantly, the article reflects on the role of social media in the particular events surrounding the seance in this movie.
