Abstract

Philanthropy, that is ‘voluntary action for public good’ (Payton and Moody, 2008, p. 3), plays a key role in civil society, both here in the UK and beyond. Central to this, the charitable sector is often at the forefront of challenging social and environmental injustice and inequality. In this article we argue that meaningfully engaging children in philanthropic action and charitable giving provides an ideal opportunity for children to critically participate and think about root causes of social issues and injustice.
