Introduction to violence against women under European human rights law

This introduction outlines the main features and contributions of the present volume. It starts by mapping the challenges that still remain in tackling violence against women globally and in Europe particularly. It then briefly points to the main documents tasked with tackling this pressing issue at European level. After offering a concise review of the main books on violence against women under Human Rights Law, this introduction then discusses the contributions of the present volume as well as its methodology and scope. Finally, it offers a detailed overview over the structure and content of each chapter. Through this it highlights the importance of considering the supranational standards in the field of violence against women in light of the social and legal context at the national level.
