Abstract
The significance of this paper lies in the fact that it provided the initial results from the first large detailed study examining the effects of the UK's National Minimum Wage legislation. In particular, its importance lay in highlighting that the wage setting behaviour of SMEs in the Print, Clothing and Hotel & Catering sectors did not conform to the predictions of orthodox economic wage setting theory.
