Abstract
Andrew Carnegie is one of the most well-known philanthropists of all time. Carnegie’s name is frequently referenced in discussions on philanthropy, he is often viewed as an ‘archetype’ philanthropist and a father of modern philanthropy. His rags-to-riches story, his writings and pronouncements on philanthropy, and the scale of his philanthropic giving, including the establishment of perpetual philanthropic institutions that continue to support a range of nonprofit activity and organisations, all attest to the ongoing influence of this one individual on contemporary civil society.
