Abstract

Operating systems are notoriously difficult programs to write. This thesis deals with the design and implementation of a small operating system in the purely functional language Miranda1 [26]. Functional languages promise extreme brevity of expression, combined with the possibility of formal verification. This thesis aims to show that an operating system in a functional language can be both easy to write and easy to reason about.
