Abstract
Lone parenthood has become more accepted in many countries but continues to evolve. In addition, the general economic climate, labor market, and social security policies in place to support lone parents, as well as general attitudes toward families and gender norms, continue to affect the lives of many families and children. This entry discusses employment and social security policies and recent developments in the scholarship on lone parents.
