Abstract

This section reports the highly unusual presence in Britain of a group of pre-Claudian and potentially pre-Claudian Roman imports of terra sigillata from Italy and Southern Gaul. The excavated group is catalogued and its significance discussed, being set alongside other groups of items of Arretine and like material known at a few other late Iron Age centres in Britain. This occurrence at Foxton, Cambridgeshire, raises a number of questions given the high status of these vessels, and represents significant new information pertaining to the status of sites in and around Cambridge at the eve of the Roman invasion of Britain.
