Abstract
Food composition databanks, focusing on bioactive compounds and their expected
biological effects, are needed to support nutrition research. Efforts towards building
such databanks should be based on evidence as per the needs, wants and desires of
the research community including information per type of food (e.g., raw; cooked),
the biological effects of these compounds in relation to chronic disease and the
means to access such information. Moreover, it is important to obtain an indication
on sustainability of such a databank, as its development and maintenance requires
substantial resources. Research was conducted to evaluate the preferences of the
international research community regarding the features of such a bioactive compounds
databank.
