Abstract

This chapter begins with a general introduction to luminescent spin-crossover (SCO) materials and luminescence energy transfer. It provides a brief overview of electronic transitions and optical properties of SCO complexes. The chapter brings together only those ingredients which are the most important for the design and application of multifunctional luminescent SCO entities. The second part of the chapter reviews the existing literature concerning materials that combine SCO and luminescence properties using examples of luminescent SCO compounds (ligands, counterions), and concludes with a discussion on the perspectives in this area of research.
