Abstract
The chapter argues that skilled migrants are a people living within a sociocultural and historical context constituting much more than a factor of production flowing across international borders. Accordingly, their career choices are not only shaped by their skills and economic factors, but also by their perceptions of the host environment and the practical challenges of the occupational opportunity structures within the broader sociopolitical context.
