Abstract
Portuguese as third language (L3) or additional foreign language (FL) has only recently begun to receive attention from scholars and researchers. This article investigates interlinguistic influence in written production by learners of Portuguese as an L3 or additional FL in multilingual context. Interlinguistic influence, although thoroughly investigated in other contexts, has not been investigated in the perspective adopted in this study. There are many variables that could contribute to interlinguistic influence in the writing process. Our focus will be on learners of different mother tongues who have been exposed to more than one FL in academic and social contexts. The objective is to analyse grammatical aspects in their written production and investigate how learners focus on these in Portuguese as L3 or additional FL. The data consists of written work produced by thirteen students, taking into account the interlinguistic influence and the FLs they have learnt. Results indicate how other FLs learnt and used by the learners and the respective contexts can influence written work.
