Abstract
In this paper, we propose an optical approach to generating nonlinearly chirped microwave pulses based on space-to-frequency-to-time mapping using a spatially discrete chirped fiber Bragg grating (SD-CFBG). The SD-CFBG functions to perform simultaneous spectral slicing, frequency-to-time mapping and temporal shifting. The generation of a nonlinearly chirped microwave pulse with a chirp rate varying from 93.6 to 11.2 GHz/ns is experimentally demonstrated.
