Abstract
In Northern Ireland, in spite of a relatively efficient peace process implemented at the institutional
and political levels, numerous episodes of physical and symbolic violence still happen at urban
interfaces between Protestant and Catholic neighbourhoods. Because they are one of the few
places where Protestants and Catholics can meet, the interfaces offer multiple opportunities for
incidents and conflicts; at the same time, they represent a key place where to hold negotiations
whose aim is to foster a genuine reconciliation between the two communities. This article explores
the relationships between negotiations held at the interfaces and discussions organized at the regional
level, and focuses on the specific difficulties encountered at the local level.
