Abstract
The effectiveness of 2,4-diethylthioxonthone (DETX) as a photoinitiator was assessed using Real Time Infrared Spectroscopy (RTIR). The effectiveness of the DETX in curing thin films and its ability to initiate the polymerisation of a monoacrylate were assessed. Its performance in these tests was compared to that of 2-isopropylthioxanthone (ITX) and 1-chloro-4-propoxythioxonthone (CPTX). The uv-absorption properties of DETX ore somewhat more favourable than ore those of ITX as are its solubility properties in typical reactive diluents and prepolymers.
