Abstract

The polymer chain microstructures of poly(methylphenylsilylene), poly(methyl-p-tolylsilylene) and poly(cyclohexylmethylsilylene) prepared by three different modifications of the alkali-metal-mediated reductive-coupling of the corresponding dichloroorganosilanes have been studied using Si-29 NMR spectroscopy. Deconvolution software has been used to obtain accurate integrals of the resonances associated with isotactic, syndiotatctic and heterotactic triads in the spectra of the polymers. In all cases, and in contrast with the observations of previous studies, the polymer structures were observed to accord with models based on Bernoullian statistics.
