Abstract

As part of an ongoing study of the electromagnetic architecture of buildings, the behaviour of frequency selective surfaces (FSS) employing only a small number of elements for indoor communications is discussed in this paper. This paper reports some results from an ongoing study of small arrays of apertures used as providers of selective transmission between two adjacent rooms within a building. The FSS arrays are intended to be electromagnetically transparent at the TETRA band, so that two-way transceiver operation is possible. The separation wall between the two rooms is partially screened, allowing for transmission for emergency services, while providing isolation for other high-speed wireless technologies that could be otherwise used for transmission of more sensitive data.
