Abstract

For the first time, we present results on an all-fiber acousto-optic phase modulator using aluminum nitride (AIN) piezoelectric coating. Finite-element analysis has been employed to determine the response to the modulator from 10 kHz to 600 MHz. At frequencies higher than 28 MHz, the response is dominated by radial resonances of the fiber-coating composite. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
