Abstract

This work makes a significant contribution to scholarship on two levels: Themistocles is one of the leading Greek statesmen but his later years, spent in exile, have remained in obscurity. The book sheds new light on this period. The book also offers a corresponding advance in our understanding of Achaemenid Persia, the place of Themistocles’ exile.
