Abstract

Shona Illingworth's two screen video installation and works from her Amnesia Museum are included in the group exhibition, Brain(s)- Cervell(s) at the Museo San Telmo in San Sebastian, Spain.

The exhibition “Brain(s)” gathers together works of art by contemporary artists and scientific projects based around this fascinating organ, the most complex object we know and the one that generates the greatest number of unknowns both on a scientific and philosophical level.

y means of this historical, scientific and artistic material, the exhibition questions our understanding of conscious experience and explores how art, science and philosophy have studied and represented the brain throughout history.

Brain(s) is organised into three areas: Matter, Mind and Other Minds. It takes us into both the anatomy of the brain and everything that it generates: consciousness, abstract thought, language, imagination, dreams and memory. The exhibition also investigates other minds beyond the human: artificial, animal, collective intelligences, as well as those of brainless organisms.
