Abstract

This research monograph focuses on the emergence and growth of the private healthcare sector. It is suggested that India has probably the largest private healthcare sector in the world (p129). The major focus of the analysis is Kolkata and the associated region, on the grounds that it has been neglected in research of this kind, at least compared with the other large metropolitan areas such as Mumbai. However, this analytical focus is placed within a wider Pan‐Indian context
