Abstract
This article explores the social and discursive conditions of Anna Louisa Karsch’s public fame. It analyses the attempts to transfer the poet’s performative qualities onto the artifact of the printed book and the creation of Karsch’s public image within an emerging celebrity culture. Finally, the article examines the challenges of female celebrity in the eighteenth century through the example of Karsch’s Sapphische Lieder.
