McLean, Kate (2023) Smell Mapping: How to Visualise Olfactory Narrative. In: American Historical Association 136th Annual Meeting, 5 - 8 Jan 2023, Philadelphia. (Unpublished) (KAR id:100310)

Abstract

Presentation of practice-based research into the narrative of the first recorded smellwalk by Hallé and Boncerf in Paris in 1790. The final piece takes the form of an animated version of an illustrated itinerary map with an overlaid in-person audio. Advocates for physical maps as a sensate vehicle for an imagined pilgrimage in the appreciation of social historical walks.
