Abstract

Maintenance modelling is a process aiming to optimally balance between the cost of maintenance and the loss of performance of technical systems. It provides an informed cost-benefit basis to firms in decision-making and a means to keep asset performance at a desired level. It therefore plays a vital role in many industrial sectors including energy, aviation, and ground transportation. The increasingly advanced data collection tools have provided abundant data on the health condition of physical assets and the availability of maintenance resources. Meanwhile, novel computing algorithms and modelling techniques offer opportunities to improve existing maintenance optimization methods. As such, research on maintenance has attracted considerable attention and it will be the main focus of this special issue.

This special issue of Reliability Engineering and System Safety invites contributions in the broad field of Maintenance Modelling. The Guest Editors seek submissions with an original perspective and advanced thinking relevant to maintenance modelling. Both theoretical models and practical studies are welcome.
