Abstract
This is a health and lifestyle survey of adult (17+) Irish men living in the London Borough of Haringey who were either born in Ireland (Irish Republic or Northern Ireland) or who are second or third generation Irish. A sampling frame was compiled of the addresses of adult males of Irish ethnic origin in four selected electoral wards using distinctive Irish names on the electoral register for the London Borough of Haringey. The study design ensured that the choice of electoral wards and the use of the distinctive names approach produced an unbiased set of addresses that were representative of Irish people living in the borough as a whole (as far as could be ascertained from the 1991 Census).
