Second comment on ‘The most energy efficient way to charge the capacitor in a RC circuit’

Oven, Robert (2018) Second comment on ‘The most energy efficient way to charge the capacitor in a RC circuit’. Physics Education, 54 (1). Article Number 016503. ISSN 0031-9120. E-ISSN 1361-6552. (doi:10.1088/1361-6552/aae76a) (KAR id:72800)

Abstract

In a recent reply to the paper (Oven 2018 Phys. Educ. 53 046501) it was argued that the analysis in the above comment was flawed in that the circuit used for the current generator was incomplete. The reply also analyses a current generator circuit to support the arguments and reasserts that the energy loss involved in charging a RC circuit is dependent on the charging rate. Here, the counter arguments in the reply are shown to be in error. It is demonstrated that the conclusions reached in the above comment remain valid.
