Abstract

Area-proportional Venn diagrams, where region areas correspond to user-specified values, represent data set relationships intuitively. Circles cannot draw accurate diagrams for most region areas and, polygons have jagged edges that impede understanding. Ellipses have various degrees of freedom and are smooth, but using them to draw such diagrams is challenging. We present eulerAPE: the first software that draws exact area-proportional Venn-3 diagrams using ellipses, for 85% of random data sets.
