Abstract

This paper describes the progress made to date in defining a ne set of standards for Open Distributed Processing (ODP). It explains how the first of these standards, the Basic Reference Model, is organized and how the architecture is structured. It introduces the main concepts and design choices to be found in the Basic Reference Model and indicates how the standardization work is expected to proceed in the near future.
