Abstract

This paper presents an architectural approach

based on exception handling for structuring faulttolerant

software systems. We introduce the concept of

an idealised fault tolerant architectural element (iFTE)

that clearly separates the normal and exceptional

behaviours of architectural elements. An advantage of

the proposed architectural solution is that it can be

instantiated into components and connectors. The

feasibility of the proposed architectural approach is

evaluated in terms of a simple case study.
