Abstract
This book concentrates on a relatively unknown anti-fascist organisation, the Arditi del popolo, which existed from 1919-22. With the first book only appearing in Italy in 1997, and with three more being published since then, this is a fast-growing field of modern historiography. This monograph takes issue with standard Italian and English histories of the period, arguing that this model of organisation came very close to stopping Mussolini’s rise to power.
