Abstract
This is the first study of Veza Canetti’s complete prose and dramatic output. It draws on previously unknown material in the Canetti Archive in Zurich and examines unpublished chapters of Elias Canetti’s Das Augenspiel in order to re-evaluate this controversial husband-and-wife writing partnership. The book teases out many veiled political references and a range of responses to contemporary literary and social issues.
Preliminary extracts have appeared in German and Italian publications. The author is in negotiation with a German publisher with a view to bringing out a translation. This project inspired a major international conference held in Canterbury in 2005 and as well as an AHRC-funded PhD project
