Abstract
This introduction to a special issue of Dix-Neuf provides an overview of cultural representations of health, medicine, treatment and recovery in nineteenth-century French-speaking settings, specifically France and Belgium. It outlines the main themes of recent critical approaches to the topic, particularly those associated with Medical Humanities.
