Abstract
Despite the renaissance of academic and practical interest in urban agriculture—and urban food systems more broadly—these spaces have generally been overlooked and under-explored as a valuable form of green infrastructure. This chapter considers the multifunctional co-benefits of urban agriculture, focusing on its development, value, and meaning in a European context. The chapter provides an overview of the key aspects that characterise urban agriculture, namely policy, existing typologies, and co-benefits, particularly social benefits. Some of these social benefits are outlined in a qualitative analysis of a case study which concludes the chapter.
