Abstract

This article aims to investigate what happened during the first restoration of the Centre Pompidou before the year 2000. The findings showed how the necessity of the refurbishment led in the reality into a complete re-functionalisation of the building. The mix-used floors, typical of the original configuration, were changed to create two different and distinctive buildings (the museums and the public library) one on top of the other.
