Abstract
This essay collection explores the myths of mass culture. Diverse symbols, signs, and narratives that are embedded deep in familiar aspects of contemporary life are examined, exposing the masks – the hidden ideologies and meanings – that implicitly affect our thought and behaviour. The essays - dedicated to signs of culture that are as pervasive as they are influential - look at the particular ways in which myth operates in the contemporary context, whilst linking this view to perspectives on the role that mythology has played historically, in human societies and cultures.
