14 chapters exploring the various ways different films, genres, stars and directors have elected to portray virginity at different historical moments. Contributors include Celestino Deleyto, on The 40 Year Old Virgin, Gaylyn Studlar on the virginal star image of the young Elizabeth Taylor, and Jeffers McDonald herself contesting the myth of Doris Day’s perpetual virginity.
