Abstract
This paper considers the development of sliding mode output feedback controllers. The existence problem is solved via a static output feedback formulation using a descriptor approach. Linear matrix inequalities (LMI) are used to obtain the parameters of the switching function. The paper provides conditions in terms of the system structure for a stable reduced-order sliding motin to exist. A controller is constructed to ensure the sliding mode is reached. A numerical example from the literature illustrates the proposed method.
