Abstract

This report contains the proceedings of the International Workshop on Functional and Declarative Programming in Education (FDPE 2002), held in Pittsburgh (USA) on October 7, 2002 as part pf PLI 2002 (Principles, Logics, and Implementations of high-level programming languages). Functional and declarative programming plays an increasingly important role in computing education at all levels. This workshop aimed at bringing together educators and others who are interested in exchanging ideas on how to use a functional or declarative programming style in the classroom. Previous workshops have been held in Paris (1999) and Southampton (1997). The technical program of the workshop included standard presentations as well as short talks or "tricks of the trade" presentations focusing on small but neat ides. The organizers reviewed all papers submitted in response to a call for papers. Following the review process and a lively email discussion, the organizers selected the papers contained in these proceedings for presentation at the workshop. The organizers would like to thank the organization team of PLI 2002 for hosting the workshop and Klaus Höppner for his help in the preparation of the proceedings.
