Abstract
This is the first collection in English of Ficino’s writings on astrology, and Angela Voss has provided a lengthy Introduction which provides a historical, cultural and philosophical context for this particular aspect of Ficino’s thought and work. She addresses the question of the relationship between orthodox Christianity and Platonic knowledge in relation to Ficino’s theory and practice of astrology, and provides a detailed commentary on the texts in the volume. The question of astrology in relation to Ficino’s theological position has been comparatively neglected in studies of his philosophy, and this volume locates Ficino firmly in the esoteric tradition of Western thought within which practices of magic and divination interweave with and inform philosophical discourse and theory
