Abstract

The pyroelectric behaviour of alternate-layer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films containing monomeric eicosylamine and a linear copolysiloxane substituted with omega-(4-alkoxyphenyl)alkanoic acid side-groups has been investigated. A quasi-static detection method has been used to measure the rate of change of electric polarization with respect to temperature, i.e. the pyroelectric coefficient of these molecular thin films. The coefficient measured at 303 K is 6.4 muC m-2 K-1, which is one of the highest values ever reported for an LB film device.
